MSIF campaign
Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI) was announced as the preferred operator of a pilot Medically Supervised Injecting Facility (MSIF) by the HSE in February 2018. MQI was then denied planning permission for the facility by Dublin City Council in July 2019. In August, we appealed this decision to An Bord Pleanála.
MSIFs have been saving lives around the world for over 30 years. Research has consistently shown that they also reduce public injecting, reduce drug-related litter, and save money.
Although your support of the MSIF can’t influence the independent decision-making authority of An Bord Pleanála, you can raise your voice to ensure the issue is maintained as a political priority for all parties. We have launched a campaign to highlight voices of support.
Local residents and businesses, celebrities, academics, doctors, community workers and politicians have joined us to share their reasons for supporting a new approach to responding to people who inject drugs.
