Merchants Quay Ireland submit planning application for Medically Supervised Injecting Facility

Merchants Quay Ireland (MQI) have today submitted a planning application to Dublin City Council for Ireland’s first Medically Supervised Injection Facility.

The application proposes that the facility be located in MQI’s Riverbank building on Merchant’s Quay, and will be accompanied by a full renovation of the exterior of the building. The injecting facility itself will include a reception, waiting area, medical rooms, and areas for contact work with clients.

Every day in Ireland, two people die from a drug-related cause.

With the MSIF, we have the opportunity to bring people in addiction out of alleyways and into a safe, clean and compassionate environment, where they will have contact with medical and specialist services.

As well as saving lives, our hope is that this new service creates safer streets for the entire community. We are committed to being open and transparent, and look forward to fully engaging in the planning process. We would ask any local residents who may have questions about the facility to get in touch with us through our website.
