MQI’s training department has over 20 years’ experience in delivering high quality and professional training sessions, courses and workshops including addiction and gambling, addiction and harm reduction, motivational interviewing, pharmacology of addiction, and a Certificate in Addiction Studies. In recent years, MQI have partnered with the University College Dublin, offering a two year Diploma in Drugs Counselling Theory & Intervention Skills (available in Dublin and Cork – certificate only). Upon completing the first year, participants will also have the opportunity to graduate with a Certificate in Drugs Counselling & Intervention Skills.

Peter Kelly is the certified Training Officer with Merchants Quay Ireland. Peter has worked in the area of addiction and substance misuse, along with being involved in both drug counselling and drug education for the past 20 years. Peter’s background is in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and is an accredited member of the A.C.I (Addiction Counsellors of Ireland) and A.P.P.I (Association for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy in Ireland).
Peter also holds a Masters in Psychotherapy, a Bachelors in Philosophy, an Advanced Diploma in Supervision, a Diploma in Social Studies, as well as being certified in both Motivational Interviewing Training and Reality Therapy respectively.
