Statement from Merchants Quay Ireland on Medically Supervised Injection Facility
The decision to grant planning permission, for the reconfiguration of MQI’s Riverbank building, to provide for a medically supervised injection facility (MSIF), was the subject of a judicial review earlier this year. While Judge Simons has this week overturned that decision, he did order that the matter be remitted back to An Bord Pleanála for further consideration.
MQI, while disappointed with this decision, remain committed to the opening of a MSIF as part of a health-led approach to addiction. There is a clear need for this facility as it saves lives.
MQI will engage with An Bord Pleanála in the hope that a new Grant of Planning Permission will be issued next year, which will be acceptable to all parties.
