Tara Flynn, Tony Cantwell call for public to join Merchants Quay Ireland’s 10k Steps Challenge in aid of Ireland’s Homeless

Comedians Tara Flynn and Tony Cantwell have called for the public to take part in Merchants Quay Ireland’s 10k Steps Challenge this February.

The event, which will be run virtually over the month of February, challenges participants to walk 10,000 steps every day for 28 days, while raising funds in aid of people who are homeless. Flynn and Cantwell both took to Instagram to express their support for the challenge.

MQI CEO Paula Byrne said:

“We are excited to launch our first virtual challenge of 2022. We had such great success with our 80k challenge last year, and really enjoyed connecting with the supportive community who took part. We hope this challenge will not only allow our supporters to kick off the new year in a healthy way, but also to remember the daily struggle of those who rely on Merchants Quay’s vital services, as people who are homeless often end up walking great distances each day.

The money raised will help support men and women struggling with homelessness and addiction in Ireland. For example, every €10 raised can provide someone who is homeless and hungry with a hot meal and access to crisis supports.

Merchants Quay is inviting everyone to take part, have some fun with family, friends or colleagues while getting fit and enjoying the outdoors. Byrne said:

“It’s more important now than ever to stay connected with others and keep your body and mind healthy. Maybe there are friends or family members who you didn’t get to see over the holidays. Why not use this challenge to touch base with them? You can go on walks together or track your progress together virtually in our Facebook group.”
