Online and Virtual Fundraising Events
With so many ways to stay connected to each other these days and what better way to do so while also supporting the work of Merchants Quay Ireland. Right now, more than ever, our clients need the help that is provided everyday by our front-line staff at our drop in centre to provide food, clothing and healthcare. You can help by taking part in an online virtual fundraising event.
We’ve seen great support through a range of fun and exciting online events such yoga classes, live stream musical performances and virtual marathons all in support of Merchants Quay Ireland. Why not take part in one yourself!
Run 5, Donate 5, Nominate 5
You have no doubt come across this on social media and many people have already taken part in support of Merchants Quay so next time you head out within your 2k why not clock up a 5k while supporting Merchants Quay.
- Simply run 5k, share your progress via Strava or your preferred fitness app
- Donate €5 or more to Merchants Quay Ireland
- Nominate 5 of your friends or family who might find this fun too!
A great way to keep fit while helping a good cause and stay connected to those you love! Use the hashtag #run5donate5nominate5 when you post to social media and tag Merchants Quay Ireland too!
What a great way to keep the brain ticking over while having some much needed craic with your mates, whats better than a quiz? A virtual quiz! You can do so easily using one of the many online tools such as Zoom, WhatsApp, YouTube, Facebook Live to get a group of mates together. Suggest a donation to take part in the quiz, simply share our link mqi.ie/donate in the chat of your preferred online conferencing platform, Easy Peasy!
Virtual Coffee Morning
Nothing better than a nice brew but having one with a group of friends, especially during these times, is a great way to keep in touch. Maybe theme your coffee/tea morning…or afternoon (we’re not all earlybirds) dress up for the occassion in some fancy clobber, yes fairy wings and feather boas are allowed and encouraged! Suggest a donation to Merchants Quay, we love a cuppa ourselves and our work always starts with a cup of tea so it would mean so much to us to start yours with one too!
We’ve had some great support from musicians and comedians who have taken part in performances and events in support of Merchants Quay Ireland. You could live stream a raffle, a yoga class or maybe a poetry reading as we could all use some food for the soul right now and poetry sure is a way to do it! Promote your class on your social media and stream through your preferred platform. Set up an online fundraising page to collect donations which you can share throughout your stream. Justgiving is an easy to use online donation platform to create your page and funds are sent directly to Merchants Quay. You can also use Facebook to send donations to Merchants Quay Ireland.
Head or Beard, Shave or Dye
We’re all probably in need of a haircut right about now anyway! You can set up your online fundraising page on Facebook and share your photos and videos with us as you go! Send us your updates as your beard and hair grows. When it’s ready for the chop you can stream through your preferred platform such as Facebook Live or Youtube so everyone can witness the hair-fall or the unveiling of your blue rinse too! Sure it will grow back by the time this is all over anyway!
The Great ‘lock-down’ Bake-off
We’re all getting out the rolling pins and the food mixers more than ever before and getting in touch with our culinary creative side. A fun way to share your flare in the kitchen is to host a bake off with your friends and family. Maybe nominate them on social to bake or cook a dish and share the results when you’re done and encourage donations to support Merchants Quay Ireland
Birthday Fundraisers on Facebook
So now you have the cake but maybe it’s a Birthday Cake! If your birthday is coming up soon you might consider holding a Facebook birthday fundraiser for Merchants Quay Ireland. Sure, its not an ideal time to have your birthday but you can use your birthday this year to help the most vulnerable. There a handy help page on facebook fundraisers too!
People are getting together while staying apart with all eyes down! Maybe you could host a bingo night from the safety of your gardens, if you have a PA system all the better for calling out those numbers! Might be lucky for some but keep it at the garden gate!
This is only some of the fun ways people are supporting us while also having fun and staying connected to each other. The list is as long as your imagination so get brainstorming online. We have more tips and ways to donate listed on our how to fundraise page.
