Why Volunteer with MQI?
As an MQI volunteer, you will have a unique opportunity to experience our work and to engage with and help support people dealing with homelessness and addiction.
- Merchants Quay Ireland was originally staffed entirely by volunteers, who have contributed highly to the overall success of the charity.
- Volunteers play a vital role within the charity; their involvement is encouraged and supported whenever possible.
- It’s important to us that all of our volunteers are comfortable and confident in their role, so we offer clearly defined roles, with full training and supervision provided.
- MQI provides financial assistance to cover public transport travel costs incurred travelling to and from the service, when supported by receipts.

You will find our current volunteering opportunities
We are seeking volunteers who are:
- Empathetic, non-judgemental, patient, and supportive towards others.
- Reliable, flexible with a willingness to get involved and help.
- Engaging and can motivate people, in a gentle manner.
- Open to training and learning new skills.
- 18 years of age or over as MQI is an adult-only service.
- Happy for us to obtain Garda clearance for them.
- Able to provide a reference.
Availability to Volunteer.
We ask that our Volunteers commit to a minimum availability of 4 hours once a week for a period of 12 months.
