What is the 80k in September Challenge?

The 80k Challenge: Road to Recovery is a community fundraising event where participants aim to walk, run, cycle, swim 80km to raise awareness and funds for our vital recovery services. By participating, you are helping to reduce the stigma associated with addiction and supporting individuals on their journey from crisis to recovery.

How do I register for the challenge?

You can register for the challenge by visiting our registration page and filling out the necessary details. Please make sure to set up your fundraiser afterwards.

Is there a registration deadline?

No there isn’t. But please make sure to join as early as possible to complete your 80km in September.

Is there a participation fee?

No, there is no participation fee for this challenge, but you would need to set up a fundraiser to receive your fundraising pack.

When do I receive my fundraising pack?

Participants will receive their packs within a week of setting up their fundraiser. You can set up your fundraiser HERE but please make sure you are registered as a participant. If you haven’t received your pack after this period, please contact our team on 01 524 0139 or email communityfundraising@mqi.ie

How do I start fundraising?

Once registered, you will receive instructions on setting up your fundraising page. You can share this page with friends, family, and colleagues to start collecting donations.

What is included in the fundraising pack?

The challenge pack includes a t-shirt, a beanie, a progress card, tea bag & pen.

What is the fundraising goal?

While there is no minimum fundraising requirement, we suggest aiming for a goal of €500.

Are donations tax-deductible?

Yes, individual donations over €250 to a fundraiser are tax-deductible, but the fundraiser as a whole is not.

Do I have to complete the challenge within September?

No but the goal is to complete the challenge within the month of September.

Can I participate as part of a team?

Absolutely! You can form a team with friends, family, or colleagues. Each team member needs to register individually.

What if I can’t complete the challenge?

Participation and effort are what count! Even if you can’t complete the challenge, your involvement and fundraising efforts are greatly appreciated.

Are there any age restrictions for participants?

The challenge is open to all ages. However, participants under the age of 18 should have permission from a parent or guardian.

Do I need any special equipment to participate?

No special equipment is required. However, we recommend wearing comfortable attire and footwear suitable for physical activity.

Can I participate from anywhere?

Yes, you can participate from any location. The challenge is designed to be flexible and inclusive, allowing participants from all over to join in.

What if I have a medical condition?

If you have any medical conditions, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before participating in the challenge.

Are there any safety tips for participants?

Yes, we encourage participants to stay hydrated, wear appropriate clothing and footwear, and listen to their bodies to avoid overexertion.
