Sunday Dinner Lenten Appeal
Your gift to safeguard the Sunday Dinner Service this Lent will help to nourish those with nothing to eat, and nowhere to go.
A Sunday Dinner that changes lives
A warm welcome on a Sunday starts with a hot roast dinner, but it opens up so much more… It’s an opportunity to speak to a case worker, and get crisis support. It’s a moment to warm up from the cold, fill up on food – and find hope once again.
Why your kindness matters
Our Sunday Dinner Service receives no state funding and is only possible thanks to the generosity of our amazing MQI family of donors.
A fresh start begins with you
Today, I hope you will join our family and uphold this meaningful Lenten tradition by making a secure donation today.
It starts with a hot meal...
“I come to MQI every Sunday. There’s nowhere else like it. It’s one of the only places in the city where I feel comfortable. The staff are wonderful. God bless every single one. They’ll talk to you all day. They gave me my confidence back, because I was close to giving up.
“As an older person, spending the whole week alone, it’s priceless to be able to come here on Sundays for a chat and a laugh. When you’re down in life, you find out who your real friends are. And I know I’ll always have friends at MQI.”
– Robert, Sunday Dinner Service client

The Sunday Dinner Service
You can provide a lifeline to MQI clients each Sunday:
- A Hot Meal and a Warm Space: A simple meal or cup of tea can offer physical warmth and comfort to someone in need.
- Access to Essential Services: Your support means a person in crisis can get help at the weekend; help with emergency accommodation, nursing or mental health supports.
- A Sense of Belonging and Compassion: More than just meeting basic needs, your donation helps create a place where people feel valued and cared for—without judgment.
- Restoring Dignity and Hope: For someone facing homelessness, your kindness can help restore a sense of dignity and offer hope for a better future.
The good your donation will do each Sunday...
Fuel & Nourishment
A hot and nutritious meal has the power to fill an empty belly, and nourish a weary soul.

With the Sunday Dinner Service, our men and women don’t need to be panicking about finding something to eat. The whole thing will keep them going for the rest of the day. That’s my goal: to make sure clients are walking out of here with their bellies and their hearts full.
— Chef Dave
Hope & Healing
The Sunday Service is where your compassion touches the lives of clients – when they need it most.

I ended up homeless when my anxiety spiralled and my life just fell apart. I don’t know where I’d be, if I couldn’t come here every week for a meal and mental health support. — Jim, MQI Sunday Dinner Service client
Safety & Security
In your kindness, there’s the safety and security of knowing there’s always a friend close by.

What’s great about the Sunday Service is that we build up relationships with people. We see them every week, so if someone doesn’t show up, we can check and make sure they’re okay.
— Cash, Catering Assistant
A Fresh Start
The Sunday Service is an open door, when it feels like there’s nowhere else to turn.

When I came that first Sunday, I had nothing but my bus pass, and the clothes on my back. I was nervous, because I don’t like being in the city on my own. My legs will ache if I walk for too long. But coming in here, eating a decent dinner and speaking with a caseworker – it gave me so much hope. Now I’m here as soon as the service opens up each Sunday. There’s good people out there keeping hope alive for people like me, there’s no question about it.
