A Chat with Eddie: Hope, Recovery and the Power of Your Kindness

Reflecting on 2025

When asked what gave him hope in 2025, MQI CEO Eddie Mullins doesn’t hesitate.

“It’s the kindness of supporters. Every day, donors send notes, letters, and even poems to be shared with clients. Many also open up about loved ones who have experienced homelessness or addiction.”

“Knowing that you care so deeply inspires us every day,” Eddie says.

“One of the most uplifting moments of the year was the Road to Recovery challenge in September. Supporters came together to show their support for people in recovery. Moments like these remind clients that they are seen, supported, and not alone. Behind the doors of MQI, hope is always present. Staff work hard to make sure everyone who comes through the door feels welcome, respected, and cared for. Last December, the new Medically Supervised Injection Facility (MSIF) opened. It provides a safe space where people get health care and are treated with respect, helping to save lives.”

Every client, Eddie reminds us, is someone’s much-loved son or daughter.

Looking ahead to 2026

Eddie is honest about the challenges ahead. With homelessness continuing to rise, demand for MQI services is growing year on year.

“In 2026, my hope is that MQI can continue to meet people where they are, ensuring every client feels seen, respected, and cared for, without turning anyone away,” Eddie says. Simple supports, like a nurse’s care, a warm shower, or a hot meal, can change someone’s life. MQI remains there for people, offering help with kindness, respect, and understanding.”

A heartfelt thank you to you

Eddie’s message to donors is simple but deeply felt.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support doesn’t just help MQI operate, it makes everything possible. Thanks to you, people sleeping outside can always find a warm welcome, a hot meal, and a shower at Riverbank. Women have a safe space at Jane’s Place, where they can start to reclaim their lives and regain confidence and self-esteem. Every day, lives are changed because of your support, giving hope, safety, and a real chance for a fresh start. Every day, the MSIF helps men and women take steps toward recovery, giving them care, support, and hope.
