“I started drinking and taking drugs when I was a teenager, to escape from my thoughts. I felt so uncomfortable in my body.”

Jennifer was never able to share her past with anyone. The raised voices in the kitchen as a child, when her mother and step-father were drinking heavily. The sexual assault she had suffered, the toxic relationship she fell into.

Instead, she pushed these feelings deep down.

For women like Jennifer, there’s hope at Jane’s Place, MQI’s service for women. 

At Jane’s Place, there’s no judgement. Jennifer has spent many hours with our counsellor Rachel, and had a real chance to heal. Uncovering the layers of hurt, and building her self-esteem.
