Sunday Dinner Lenten Appeal
Your gift to safeguard the Sunday Dinner Service this Lent will help to nourish those with nothing to eat, and nowhere to go.
A Sunday Dinner that changes lives
A warm welcome on a Sunday starts with a hot roast dinner, but it opens up so much more… It’s an opportunity to speak to a case worker, and get crisis support. It’s a moment to warm up from the cold, fill up on food – and find hope once again.
Why your kindness matters
Our Sunday Dinner Service receives no state funding and is only possible thanks to the generosity of our amazing MQI family of donors.
A fresh start begins with you
Today, I hope you will join our family and uphold this meaningful Lenten tradition by making a secure donation today.
It starts with a hot meal...
When I first came here, they helped me straight away. They didn’t tell me to come back another day. I also didn’t have to go to five different places to get help. I come to one place, and they help me with meals, showers, nurses everything.
It’s not just the meals. It’s support, safety, and care, all in one place. If I’m having a bad day, I know I can come here and talk to someone. That makes a huge difference. It feels safe here. I can sit, read, think, and just be for a while.
– Justin, Sunday Dinner Service Client
The Sunday Dinner Service
You can provide a lifeline to MQI clients each Sunday:
A Hot Meal and a Warm Space: A simple meal or cup of tea can offer physical warmth and comfort to someone in need.
Access to Essential Services: Your support means a person in crisis can get help at the weekend; help with emergency accommodation, nursing or mental health supports.
A Sense of Belonging and Compassion: More than just meeting basic needs, your donation helps create a place where people feel valued and cared for—without judgment.
Restoring Dignity and Hope: For someone facing homelessness, your kindness can help restore a sense of dignity and offer hope for a better future.
The good your donation will do each Sunday...
Fuel & Nourishment
A hot and nutritious meal has the power to fill an empty belly and nourish a weary soul.
What makes Sundays special is the atmosphere. There’s a real sense of community. It’s not just about the meal, it’s the nurses, mental health teams, showers, everything. It’s about sitting down, being noticed, and being treated like a human being. You can see how much it matters to people, how much they rely on it. It would be a huge loss if it weren’t here.’’
– John, Sunday Dinner Service Chef
Hope & Healing
The Sunday Service is where your compassion touches the lives of clients - when they need it most.
For a lot of people, Sunday is the hardest day. Being able to sit down, have a meal, and talk to someone gives me comfort when I have nowhere else to go. The service has changed hugely over the years, and it’s made a real difference to my life.”
– Moses, Sunday Dinner Service Client
Safety & Security
In your kindness, there's the safety and security of knowing there's always a friend close by.
Sundays give us a chance to steady people before the week begins. A warm meal, a calm space, and a simple conversation can really change how someone copes with the days ahead. You can see the difference it makes when people leave feeling a bit stronger than when they arrived.”
– Claire, Service Coordinator
A Fresh Start
The Sunday Service is an open door, when it feels like there's nowhere else to turn.
There’s no judgment here. No one questions you or makes you feel uncomfortable. You’re just treated with kindness. If you need help, the staff will help you. The food has always been decent – but more than that, the way you’re treated is what matters.”
– Warren, Sunday Dinner Service Client
