Urgent Recovery Services Appeal

Seán grew up in a violent home. His father’s abuse left him bruised, physically and emotionally. Then, at just ten years old, Seán was torn from his mother and sent to an industrial school. That moment broke his heart, and the pain led him down a dark path of addiction.

At MQI, our Recovery Services understand what addiction really is – an escape from unbearable trauma. Our team has the expertise to see the hurt behind the addiction and offer a way forward.

It was in prison where Seán met one of MQI’s addiction counsellors, Aoibheann, and for the first time, he felt truly listened to. Aoibheann saw beyond Seán’s addiction and helped him face the pain he’d been carrying for years. Slowly, Seán started to believe in himself again.

“It was the best thing I ever did,” Seán said. “No one had ever spoken to me like that. I felt like someone believed in me.”
