Merchants Quay Ireland Launches Cavan and Monaghan Service

Minister Frank Feighan launches Merchants Quay Ireland’s Cavan & Monaghan Drug and Alcohol Service (CAMDAS)

Merchants Quay Ireland, the national homeless and addiction charity, has today launched the MQI CAMDAS (Cavan & Monaghan Drug & Alcohol Service) Project. The service offers a range of free and confidential support services to individuals, their families, and the wider Cavan Monaghan community.

Speaking at today’s launch, Minister of State for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy Frank Feighan said:

“Minimising the harms caused by substance misuse and the promotion of rehabilitation and recovery is a key strategic action under the national drug strategy, ‘Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery – a health led response to drug and alcohol use in Ireland 2017-2025’. The important work of the new Cavan Monaghan Drug and Alcohol Service led by Merchants Quay Ireland will continue to enhance access to, and delivery of drug and alcohol services in the community. I am confident the service will provide a great help in helping people with substance use issues on their journey to recovery.”

Also speaking at the launch, MQI CEO Paula Byrne said:

“We are strongly behind this service which seeks to enhance access to and the provision of support for people in the Cavan/Monaghan region who are experiencing drug and alcohol problems. People can and do recover from addiction and go on to live full and active lives, provided they get access to the supports they need, when they need them. MQI are committed to working to achieve this goal and we look forward to working with our partners, the HSE, the North Eastern Regional Drugs Task Force and all of the other statutory, voluntary and community agencies in providing these much-needed services for the people of Cavan and Monaghan.”

The increasing number of people seeking addiction services nationwide is a very clear indication of the urgent need for more local services.
